This week I was going to sew that purple ponte di roma into Vogue 1020, but after checking PR, I decided against it. The reviews brought up some good points about its odd construction:For example, what's the deal with putting a zipper (a 12" one, no less!) in a knit top? And a few other questionable construction details. Plus, the consensus was that it works better for lightweight knit, and my knit is medium to heavy. But I wanted to start sewing! So, I dug through my pattern stash, found Vogue 2091 and started cutting.
I sewed this a long time ago when I was living in Oregon. But, I made it one size too small, and the snugness was flattering in some areas, and... not so flattering in others. I always intended to try again - I just didn't think it would take this long! The dress is basically straight on the left side, and has two deep darts on the left front and the left back, which makes for some interesting gathers around the middle. I really like it. Not so sure it's good for work, but it will be great for a night out with my honey.
So, here you go with some more caffeine-fueled photos. I can't be held responsible for what I do when under the influence...

As always, you can get more construction details on my review at PatternReview.com. The link is on the left.
I also finished the Kwik Sew 2948 cardigan pattern. I loved the construction - the pattern is very well drafted and went together like a dream... However, I think the end result is boring. More precisely, I think I am (or perhaps only FEEL) too young for this cardigan. I would like one with more shape. I think I am going to wear this cardigan sparingly and put away the pattern until, like, my 50th birthday. Then I will take it out and make one in every color I can think of.

Too funny! I made this cardigan a few years ago at age 60 and felt exactly the same way about it.
Maybe I suggest you spice up the cardigan like adding beads or sequins along the front edges and have a tie ribbon at the waist...that way you don't feel like kinda 'old feeling'.... and maybe pair up with a lacy hemmed camisole underneath...oooh...you'll feel young again. I love your dress too, simple and sweet with a touch of elegance...
The dress looks great. The cardigan is cute but not jazzy enough for you. It will be fine for going shopping or a spring picnic- well you have your new coat to wear for that- Maybe volunteer day somewhere:)
The dress is awesome! Very retro and would also look cute in a print for spring. The jacket is nice but I think it needs to be embelished or made with jazzy fabric just for fun!

I agree on the cardigan. You are much too young. And of the prospect of Jazzing it up bothers you, then let it go. As far as cardigans, what do you think about those ones with shorter sleeves, kind of bell-shaped, and with big buttons. I think those are too cute, and you could get away with that one much better.
